It’s soon to be fall, the leaves will change color. You and your honey can take a nice leisurely drive to the country (and stop at the desi stores and outlet malls on the way). It’s time for our desi comfort food when the wind picks up, the leaves rustle and you need a shawl or the sweater that Jharna Aunty knitted for you before you left the country. She said that when you wear this, it will remind you of the old country. An old sweater which has seen better days and Khichdi…the desi risotto.—what else could be better? More

Sholay Events would like to help promote Tiny Drops India, a hip hop community center for youth living in the slums of Mumbai and Delhi, with a purpose of providing an alternative creative and social outlet and a space for mentorship and guidance. The founder of the organization grew up in Queens and was deported to india after 9/11 and spent years in Dharavi, the largest slum in Bombay, working with kids who wanted to learn how to break dance, and was then inspired to create Tiny Drops as a community center and resource. Tiny Drops will offer workshops in breakdancing, old school hip hop dance, film making and editing, and music DJing & producing, facilitated by high-level professionals in these fields. More

Nagesh Kukunoor’s “Aashayein”, the newest film out of Bollywood dealing with death and fatalism opened last week here in New York. The film, starring John Abraham, was reviewed here in the New York Times. We haven’t heard any feedback yet, but it does look slightly better than the newest Hollywood retread opening this week, We Are Family, a film loosely based on Stepmom. More
