Bollywood’s Queer Caricatures

Shubhra Gupta of Indian Express delves a bit into Bollywood’s portrayal of queer characters, in light of last year’s decision by the Delhi High Court, “Dostana” and even “Dunno Y Na Jaane Kyon”. Will it get better and will Bollywood be able to release their own version of “Milk”? As Gupta notes, the industry still can’t get over even the basic ethnic stereotypes (including Parsis and South Indians), so we can’t really hope any major breakthroughs in mainstream Bollywood for gay, lesbian and transgendered characters.
