More Drama for “‘Dunno Y … Na Jaane Kyun”

Bollywood’s recent queer release, “Dunno Y … Na Jaane Kyun”, has been in the news this week. First, it was reported that the Censor Board has requested that the sex and kissing scenes in the movie be removed from the film so as not to make the Indian public uncomfortable! Finally, yesterday it was reported by Time of India yesterday that the parents of lead actor Yuvraaj Parasher had publicly disowned him for playing a gay man in the film. Parasher’s parents claim to have been lied to about the film and are apparently more concerned about their community’s reaction to the film! Parasher’s father is even ready to make things official by taking it to court.

Perhaps Parasher’s embarrassed parents should read about the grieving parents of Asher Brown, a 13-year old from Texas who took his own life last week after continuos bullying and harassment by his schoolmates. Brown was gay and, according to news reports, had just come out to his father, who had apparently had accepted this.
