“Gandu” – South Asian International Film Festival

We’re excited to be co-presenting the world premier of the rather provocatively titled film Gandu, as part of the 2010 South Asian International Film Festival. The New York Times describes the film: “With its rapping, heroin-smoking, angry-young-man hero, a film by the Bengali director Q (the title’s printable translation is “Loser”) thumbs its nose at convention and aims to shock.” Here’s a synopsis: Gandu hates his life. He hates his mother—the mistress of a local businessman. In his dreams, Gandu raps out the hate, anger, dirt and filth of his existence. One day he collides with a strange Rikshaw-puller, a devotee of Bruce Lee. Together, they dive into a dark fantasy featuring heavy doses of smack, rap, porn, horror. The narrative blurs dream with reality with a head rush of raw emotion and graphic sex.

Check it out on Friday, October 29th from 7:30pm-9:30pm. The film will be screened along with Grant St. Shaving Co. at the SVA Theater located on 23rd Street, btwn Eighth and Ninth Ave. Visit SAIFF’s website for details and tix.
