Nelson Mandela: Champion of Equality
“For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” —Nelson Mandela
We join the world in mourning the loss of Nelson Mandela (1918 – 2013). Mandela will forever be remembered for enduring 27 years in prison, his peaceful struggle against apartheid, and guiding South Africans in building a multi-racial democracy. He was also steadfast in championing LGBT rights, leading South Africa to become the first country on the continent to ban antigay discrimination.
