A Decade in Bolly Visuals: #10- “Raat ka Nasha” from Asoka (2001)

So, we begin our series of end of year/decade lists, and we’ll start off with highlighting some of the visuals that have delighted us since 2000. And at #10, it’s “Raat ka Nasha” from Santosh Sivan’s, Asoka, a very fictionalized account of the Indian emperor.

As expected from a Santosh Sivan offering, the film is a visual feast, though somewhat lacking in plot and story. The soundtrack is a must to own, especially for “Raat ka Nasha”, sung by Chitra with lyrics by Gulzar. Apparently, Shah Rukh Khan initially wanted Aishwarya Rai as the Queen Kaurwaki (one of Asoka’s wives), but Sivan stood firm and chose Kareena Kapoor. Kareena is looking quite good in this movie, especially in this clip, and we’re completely enthralled by Tamil actress and model, Gayathri Jayaraman.
